Course Registration

Registration Information for 2026-2027 courses

Online registration for next year's classes will be available via Parent/Student Portal from March 12th to March 26th. (Please note, registration is NOT first-come, first-served - just be sure to register by the 3/26 deadline)

Current 9th-11th grade students can register at home, but can also be provided time to register during homeroom if needed.

Please come on Thursday, March 12th, 5 pm-7 pm at your convenience for our Course of Studies Fair in the MCHS gymnasium and for on-site registration (and assistance), available during the event in the MCHS cafeteria.

All can view step-by-step instructions for registering above. Our Course of Studies can be found above. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to review the Course of Studies for information on all classes offered, descriptions, prerequisites, etc.

Current 9^th-11^th graders are encouraged to access their Academic Career Plan (ACP) created with their school counselor to assist in course selection. ACPs can be found in Naviance (see step-by-step instructions on how to register).

The registration process is a crucial piece in planning for your child's future success. Because the master schedule for each high school is created in late spring based on student requests and staff availability, changes after the end of school may be more difficult to obtain. Counselors and administrators take the following into consideration when reviewing schedule appeal requests once schedules have been distributed:

- Student's failure of a course that is a prerequisite for a scheduled course or graduation requirement

- Human error

- Change in the student’s educational plan

- Balancing of class sizes

- If the requested course has low enrollment and will not be offered

- An unbalanced schedule (too many academic courses in one semester)

- An alternate was used in your schedule and you'd like to have a different alternate listed from your registration

- You would like to rise to another level.

Commitments for staff, textbooks and supplies are made based upon the courses selected. Schedule changes will not be allowed without committee approval. The appeal process for schedule change requests takes place in August for the entire year's schedule. There will also be December/January appeal dates scheduled. The committee will review requests in the order that they are received.

Changes will NOT be considered if any of the following situations occur:

- It makes a class exceed the stated class cap

- It causes the number of enrollments in a class to fall below fifteen

- It is a course for which you do not have the prerequisite

- It is a request that changes your diploma type

- It is a request to drop a career/technical class that completes a sequence

- It is a request for a class that will not work in your schedule due to scheduling conflicts

- It is a request to change the teacher

- It is a request to add a course that was not on your course request list

Early Graduation

Rising 11^th graders interested in applying to graduate early (finish in 3 years instead of 4) should register for their full 11th grade list of classes. They then need to follow up with their counselor to pick up the Early Graduation application. Applications will not be reviewed until after completion of the 10^th grade year (final grades and SOL scores are needed for consideration). Counselors will then follow up with students/parents with application decisions and to update course requests accordingly.

Work-Based Learning (WBL) - Internship

11^{th- or 12th-graders interested in a WBL Internship experience should register for the} WBL Internship and the corresponding CTE course. They should then continue registering for a full schedule (8 total credits) and then follow up with their counselor to update course requests accordingly, accounting for the WBL release blocks desired.

Approved Release

11^th or 12^th graders wishing to apply for an Approved Release should register for a full schedule and then follow up with their counselor for a Release application. If approved, the counselor will follow up with the parent/student to adjust course requests accordingly.

Issues with Course Selections

Students who are taking courses off grade level and/or seeking to double up (take two English classes, history classes, etc…to get caught up perhaps) need to see their school counselor for registration assistance if the correct courses are not available via Parent/Student portal. Parameters are set for on-line registration, therefore requiring manual entry of course request by your counselor for certain circumstances.

Currently struggling in a class?

We register optimistically. If you are currently struggling in a class and are therefore unsure of what to register for in that content area for next year, register for the next course in line. Your counselor will adjust course requests accordingly once reviewing course failures at the end of this school year. And then keep working hard this semester and get your grades up!

Virtual Virginia

Register for a full schedule of MCHS courses. Check your email for instructions that were sent by Mrs. Smith regarding VVA registration. Fill out the VVA registration form and hand it in to your counselor. Your counselor will follow up with you and adjust course requests once/if a VVA seat is secured.

 

Students and parents are encouraged to review course registrations carefully. Please see your school counselor for assistance during this process.

 

Summer Course

If you are interested in a summer course, still register for the given course now for the ‘26-’27 school year. Keep an eye out for an email from Mrs. Smith regarding summer course registration, follow the instructions given. Your counselor will then update ‘26-’27 course requests once the course is passed over the summer.
